We had dreamed of buying a house in Costa Rica for years. When we first started looking, real estate prices had been climbing 20% every year. People were flipping real estate like crazy and it seemed like a no brainer to just “get in”. Then the recession hit and suddenly the idea of investing half a million dollars on a place we’d probably only use a few weeks a year…and worrying about maintenance and renting and security the REST of the year, brought our dream to a halt.

Then we literally happened across the Fenix retreat. I was strolling down the most beautiful part of Samara Beach when I spotted what is a rare sight in a country where the maritime laws have prohibited building on the beach for years: a charming little boutique resort with big comfy teak lounge chairs under the palms right on the beach. There was a sparkling pool, surrounded by a lovely tropical garden and literally every room had a spectacular view of the water just s few steps away. What a gem I thought…but I never dreamed that a piece of this lovely retreat could be mine.

Here are some of the things we are most looking forward to:

* Stumbling out just a few steps to the beach first thing in the morning, coffee in hand.

* Walking 10 minutes into town along the beach for lunch or dinner at one one of the many great restaurants.

* Swimming and body surfing in the safe and warm crystal clear water.

* Lounging on the comfy teak chairs in the afternoon enjoying a mojito and waiting for the fishing boats to come in.

* Cooking fresh fish in my own beautifully appointed kitchen.

* Never putting on my shoes.

* Never having to get in the car if I don’t want to.

* Sharing it all with family and friends.
